Description
Ukraine has its winemaking craft that dates back to ancient times. Unfortunately, we know very little about it. Having survived the Soviets with their anti-alcohol campaign and mass cutting of vineyards, Ukrainian winemaking is actively developing. Since the restoration of Ukrainian independence in 1991, new vineyards and wineries have appeared, offering different wine styles and grape varieties. Ukrainian wines win more and more awards at international competitions and “blind” tastings.
«Нерозказана історія українського виноробства» will introduce you to the local grape varieties, the best terroirs of different regions of Ukraine, as well as traditional and new experimental wineries. Above all, the book will tell about the people behind modern Ukrainian winemaking and their path to this honorable craft.
The highlight of the publication is a series of stories of modern winemakers from different regions of Ukraine. These stories were collected during the fall of 2022 when the Ukraїner team went on expedition together with the author of the book Serhii Klimov, the founder of Kyiv Food and Wine Festival (Brave Wine). Some wineries featured in the book are currently under Russian artillery fire or heavily destroyed; their vineyards were mined. Despite the impact of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Ukrainian wine industry continues to develop, and the world is learning more and more about it. It’s time for us to find out as well.
