The first edition of this book came out in 2019. Its first print run sold out immediately, as did several subsequent ones. Almost six years have gone by since then, but Ukrainian Insider is still often the first choice when it comes to suggesting books about Ukraine. Over the years, we’ve sold over 50,000 Ukrainian copies and published translated versions in the UK, Japan, and Germany.

Back in 2019, we only had a couple of months from conception to realisation. We burned the midnight oil collecting materials for the book, selecting stories from a plethora of videos, and writing the texts. Over the course of six years, a lot of these stories have changed: some lost relevance, while others took on additional meaning. In the new edition, some stories, updated with the context of the war, are seen in a new light. We’ve also added some stories from 2019 that initially were not included in the book but seem relevant to this day.

Every similar story you share and every book about Ukraine you gift to foreigners has an incredible advocacy superpower. Copies of our book came to the hands of dozens of prime ministers and presidents of different countries, travelled to those who supplied us with weapons, and accompanied people who made the most important decisions for Ukraine during the full-scale war.

Ukrainian Insider is the first-ever book made by Ukraїner, which holds special significance for the team. Expeditions across Ukraine, which were carried out from summer 2016 to winter 2022 and encompassed all historical regions of the country, laid the groundwork for this book.

Combining the most exciting stories and photos from our journeys, Ukrainian Insider depicts Ukraine the way we discovered it for ourselves: authentic, fascinating, and full of surprises. In the new edition, we’ve updated the stories based on what has happened since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
