Ukraїner. Ukrayinanıñ içinden is the Crimean Tatar translation of Ukraїner’s very first and most iconic book, created from our expeditions across Ukraine. For the first time, readers can explore every region of Ukraine in Crimean Tatar — and, of course, Crimea itself. This edition includes brand-new stories: memoirs of Bakhchysarai illustrated with rare archival photos, and a chapter on Hederlez, the spring festival of the Crimean Tatars.
We have gathered the most vivid stories and photographs from our travels, presenting Ukraine the way we discovered it: authentic, surprising, and full of life. In this updated version, most stories have also been brought up to date in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
This translation is not a courtesy gesture or a symbolic step. It is a deliberate decision, launched together with the Crimean Tatar version of the Ukraїner website. We cannot just speak of unity — we must embody it. A book in Crimean Tatar is exactly such an act. For decades, the Ukrainian language was at risk of extinction. Today, as Ukraine fights for its independence, Crimean Tatar too must strengthen its position and leave behind the label of an endangered language.
This book is therefore an act of solidarity, gratitude, and brotherhood. Our way of saying: we see you, we hear you, we stand with you.
The translation and publication of this book are supported by the European Union under the House of Europe programme.
